Kurt is one of Canada's most popular athletes ever and has received some of the highest accolades afforded to an athlete in his country, including the Order of Canada, induction into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, and Male Athlete of the Year honors on four separate occasions. His featured television specials, Tall in the Saddle and You Must Remember This, won numerous awards and high ratings. His quad in the 1988 World Championships in Budapest was the first ever in competition and landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records.
